Who We Are

Montana Folk School offers outdoor (and some indoor during the winter) adult and family land-based living classes available to you!

We believe that sharing ecological awareness, practicing wilderness living skills, building a crafting culture, and doing work with our hands brings people together in community, focalizing the deep importance of understanding our role as an integral part of nature.

Everyone is welcome at Montana Folk School. We hope to see you on the land with us!

Our Sister Organization

We unite in partnership with our sister organization, Learning with Meaning, Inc. While Montana Folk School provides adult classes in wilderness living and folks skills, Learning with Meaning provides wilderness living skills classes to teens and kids in the Missoula valley. We share a lot in common, including similar values, mission, education focus, and dedication to the wild. Learning with Meaning allows Montana Folk School to hold classes on their 140 acres of land on the south side of Missoula and in exchange we help caretake this beautiful place. We are proud to partner with Learning with Meaning, a quality organization in its 10th year of operation.

Did you know that Learning with Meaning houses the only fully accredited, independent, secular high school in Missoula? It is called ASPIRE SCHOOL and it is something amazing! Yes, a high school student who attends Aspire School graduates with a Montana high school diploma. They also have engaging, wilderness living skills and STEM summer camps for k-12 students. They are a dynamic and growing educational non-profit.

Our course schedule varies seasonally. Check out our class listings!
